The kick-off workshop on Livestock MRV Capacity Building grant under the Oromia forested Landscape program Emission Reduction project (OFLP-ERP) hosted by Livestock and Fishery sector Development Project (LFSDP) was conducted 0n14th March 2024

H.E. Dr. Fikru Regassa, Livestock resource development sector state minister officially launched the session and delivered the keynote address. H.E emphasized the urgent need to address greenhouse gas emissions from livestock production. On his speech H.E highlighted the significant contribution of livestock to global emissions and accentuated the importance of accurate measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) to inform mitigation strategies.

Moreover, H.E Dr. Fikiru Regasa, Livestock resource development sector state minister on his key note provided background information on the environmental impact of livestock production and the role of greenhouse gas emissions. H.E painted the challenges posed by methane and nitrous oxide emissions from enteric fermentation and manure management.

The workshop’s organizer, Ato Mustefa Abu, a livestock MRV expert, stated that its Objectives were to create institutional frameworks for livestock MRV, establish MRV systems and infrastructure, and build the capacity needed for livestock MRV at the national level within the Ministry of Agriculture (livestock sector) and at the regional level, initially within the Oromia Bureau of Agriculture (livestock).
