The LFSDP (Livestock and Fisheries Sector Development Project) steering committee held its final meeting, as the project is now in its terminal phase. The LFSDP has completed its planned project lifetime and is currently in a one-year no-cost extension period.

The meeting was opened with a keynote address by H.E. Dr. Fikeru Regassa, the Livestock and Fisheries State Minister, who also chaired the discussion

Dr. Thomas Cherenet, the project coordinator, and Sewunet G/Tsadic presented the achievements of the LFSDP’s first phase, as well as the budget and activity plan for the extension period of 2017. Additionally, Ato Endeshaw Assefa introduced the draft appraisal document for the upcoming LFSDP II, outlining the components, subcomponents, budget allocations, project participants, and geographic locations. 

During the meeting, heads of agricultural offices from nine regions, along with representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Ethiopian Research Institute, participated and provided their insights to ensure the sustainability and expansion of the successful outcomes from the first phase of the LFSDP. They also expressed their commitment to complete the remaining tasks and budget within the no-cost extension period.

In conclusion, H.E. Dr. Fikiru Regassa provided guidance on completing the ongoing activities within the one-year no-cost extension and emphasized the importance of contributing to the final evaluation of LFSDP-I and the baseline survey for the second phase. He underscored the significance of the second phase of LFSDP in addressing existing gaps and empowering smallholder farmers, youth, and women to enhance market-oriented production, boost productivity, improve community nutrition, and encourage women’s active participation in livestock production. This effort plays crucial roles in realizing the ultimate goals of “YELEMAT TURUFAT”
